THE NEIGHBORHOOD HENS

Sitting on my front porch every morning, coffee in hand, I watched two neighborhood women regularly meet on the sidewalk across the street. Still in their robes, tossed hair and slippers and of Rubenesque proportions, they came together as a duet in the performance of a waltz whose steps swayed like a ship at sea from one side to the other. The term, "Hens," came from observing their heads pecking like a chicken's as they sang their arias from a score that parlayed the latest gossip into neighborhood scandals.

One of the women on seeing the clay model in my studio exclaimed, "Oh my God! I know one of those is me!". She took it all in good humor and still tells of the time when she modeled for a sculptor.

Bronze, approx. 12" high, 12" wide. Limited Edition of 200.
